Which notifications do you want?
- When the stream goes live→ Member + Live Ping
- New videos and VODs→ Member + Upload Ping
- No pings, I'll check in→ Member only
One streamer's community hub: opt-in go-live pings, schedule, clips and fan art forums, a play-with-viewers queue, supporter spaces and raid-ready moderation.
Keep one streamer's audience connected between streams and uploads. Members opt in to live notifications instead of receiving @everyone, clips and fan art get organised forums, supporters get a space linked to their subscription, and moderators have a plan for raids.
Create each category with its permissions first, then add channels inside it and keep them synced to the category. Channel types used: Text, Announcement, Forum, Voice, Stage.
Read-only essentials and the stream schedule.
Server rules, which also cover behaviour in voice and at community events.
Automatic live notifications from a notification bot or webhook. Pings the Live Ping role, never @everyone.
Permissions: Allow the notification bot or webhook to send messages.
The weekly schedule as one edited post, plus Discord Events for special streams.
New videos, VODs and social posts, posted automatically or by the Creator.
The offline hangout where the audience talks to each other, not just to the creator.
General conversation between streams.
Slowmode: 5–10 seconds while live, when chat surges
Live reactions for people watching together, so #community-chat stays readable. Unlock it only while live, or leave it open with slowmode.
Slowmode: 10 seconds
Where viewers say where they found the stream and what they enjoy.
Anything that is not about the stream.
Community-made content, organised so it can be featured on stream.
One post per clip, with the stream date in the title. The Creator can review top-reacted posts for highlight videos.
Permissions: Require a tag. Allow Embed Links.
Forum tags: Funny, Wholesome, Skill, Fail, Highlight-worthy
Fan art and edits, one post per piece, with the artist's own link in the post.
Permissions: Require a tag so artists state whether their work may be shown on stream.
Forum tags: Art, Edit, Emote idea, OK to show on stream, Please don't show on stream
Suggest games, challenges, collabs and topics. The Creator updates tags as ideas progress.
Permissions: Make Planned, Done and Not for now moderator-only (Manage Threads).
Forum tags: Game, Challenge, Collab, Topic, Planned, Done, Not for now
Moderators repost the week's best clip from #clips with credit; the Creator can react to it on stream.
Ideas for channel emotes and server emoji. Only artists' own work, with their permission to use it.
A perk for subscribers, channel members or patrons, linked to their subscription.
Chat with other supporters, plus early notice of schedule changes.
Setup photos, drafts and polls on upcoming content.
Voice hangouts and occasional supporter-only game sessions.
Public voice spaces and community Q&A.
Q&As, community meetings and watch-alongs where the Creator speaks and members request to speak.
Permissions: Stage moderators need Manage Channels, Mute Members and Move Members on this channel. Grant them to Moderator here so moderators can approve speakers.
Open voice room for viewers to hang out after a stream ends.
When the Creator runs viewer games, members add their in-game name once; moderators pick in order and clear the queue after the stream.
Slowmode: 1 minute
Community game sessions. Set a user limit that matches the game.
Coordination between server moderators and stream moderators.
Coordinate, including across platforms: note when an issue started in stream chat and carried over.
AutoMod alerts and a record of manual actions.
A pinned checklist for raids: raise verification, enable slowmode, pause invites, and who is on call.
Create roles in this order, from the top of the role list down. A role can only manage roles below it, and bot roles must sit above any role they assign.
Different staff setup or bots? Adapt this hierarchy in the roles generator.
The streamer or creator.
A manager or trusted lead moderator who can change configuration.
Server moderators. They may also moderate stream chat, but Discord and stream-platform roles are separate.
Friendly regulars who answer questions and flag problems but do not punish.
Subscribers, channel members or patrons.
Everyone who has completed onboarding.
Notified when the stream goes live.
Notified about new videos or VODs.
Use Community Onboarding so every member explicitly chooses which notifications they want. That keeps go-live pings welcome rather than a reason to leave.
Try Discord's built-in features first. Bot names are examples to evaluate, not endorsements; CordNexa has no affiliation with any bot. Review the permissions a bot requests before adding it.
Posting to #go-live automatically is the core loop of a creator server.
Native first: Discord's Connections can sync supporter roles, but live notifications usually need a notification bot or a webhook from your streaming tools.
Examples: Pingcord (Twitch and YouTube alerts; some platforms are Premium-only)
Supporter roles should follow the subscription automatically.
Native first: Discord's Twitch integration (Partners and Affiliates) and YouTube integration (Partners with channel memberships) sync roles through Server Settings → Integrations. For Patreon and other membership platforms, set up the platform's own Discord integration from the platform.
Deleted-message logs help during raids and disputes.
Native first: AutoMod alerts and the Audit Log cover the basics.
Examples: Carl-bot
These steps are specific to this kit. For the reasoning behind each stage — permissions, onboarding, testing and launch — see how to make a Discord server.
Turn on multi-factor authentication (2FA), consider Discord's 2FA requirement for moderation, and never share the owner login with moderators.
Enable Community, set #rules as the rules channel and #mod-chat for community updates. Community unlocks the Forum, Announcement and Stage channels and Server Onboarding this kit uses.
Creator → Admin → Moderator → Community Helper → Supporter → Member → ping roles. Integration and bot roles must sit above any role they assign.
For Twitch or YouTube, link the account in User Settings → Connections, then enable the integration in Server Settings → Integrations (Twitch Partners/Affiliates; YouTube Partners with channel memberships). For Patreon and similar, connect Discord from the platform. Restrict the SUPPORTERS category to the resulting roles.
Create each category with its overrides, then its channels. Give #go-live permission for your notification bot or webhook only.
Add tags to #clips, #fan-art and #stream-ideas and require a tag on new posts. The fan-art tags record whether an artist is happy for their work to be shown on stream.
Configure the notification bot or webhook to ping Live Ping and Upload Ping only. Send a test post.
In Server Settings → Onboarding, add the questions and default channels (Discord requires at least 7, with at least 5 where @everyone can view and send messages). Set verification to Medium and add the AutoMod rules, including impersonation keywords.
Pin the raid checklist in #raid-plan and confirm which moderators are available during streams.
Use View Server As Role to check SUPPORTERS is hidden from Member and visible to Supporter. Then announce the server on stream.
Point the SUPPORTERS category at the roles your integration creates (for example the Twitch Subscriber or YouTube Member roles), and adjust #uploads-and-socials for the platforms you use.
Create separate tier channels only if higher tiers get something meaningfully different. Otherwise one supporter lounge is easier to keep active.
Add a lore or character-info channel to INFO and an "OK to use in fan art" reference sheet in #fan-art's guidelines.
If you don't use a platform integration, Discord's own Server Subscriptions let members pay monthly for a role and perks. Check eligibility in your server settings.
Some communities prefer stream reactions to stay in the stream-platform chat. Remove #stream-chat if it duplicates that.
Need stricter or more relaxed wording? Customise these rules in the rules generator.
Welcome to the community! Want to know when we're live? Pick Live Ping in Channels & Roles, and check #schedule for this week's streams. Share your favourite moments in #clips, suggest what we play in #stream-ideas, and say hello in #introductions. Supporters: link your account in User Settings → Connections to unlock the Supporter Lounge.
Want a shorter, professional or bot-ready version? Try the welcome message generator.
Usually not. Pinging @everyone for every stream notifies people who didn't ask for it and encourages them to mute the server. An opt-in Live Ping role sends notifications only to people who want them.
Discord's Twitch integration (for Twitch Partners and Affiliates) and YouTube integration (for YouTube Partners with channel memberships) sync subscriber roles through Server Settings → Integrations after members link their accounts in User Settings → Connections. Those roles are managed automatically and can't be assigned by hand. Patreon and similar services use their own Discord integration, set up from the platform.
No. Roles on a streaming platform and Discord roles are separate. Assign Discord roles deliberately, and agree how bans on one platform relate to the other.
Raise verification, add slowmode to public channels, pause invites (Server Settings → Invites, or Security Actions in the server menu), and remove raid accounts. Restore normal settings once it is over and record what happened in #mod-log.
