DISCORD'S MODEL

What Community Onboarding does

Discord Community Onboarding combines default channels with questions whose answers assign roles and channels. Server Guide is part of the onboarding experience and can add a Welcome Sign, new-member to-dos and resources.

CordNexa recommends a focused journey; those recommendations are not Discord limits. Servers without Community can use the same plan manually through welcome channels, role menus and staff-assigned access.

Default channels and useful questions

Keep defaults focused

Show rules, orientation, the primary conversation and the first useful help or activity destination.

Make answers consequential

Assign a relevant role, reveal channels, or do both. Remove questions that only collect trivia.

Required versus optional

Require only decisions needed for access or safety. Keep interests and notifications optional where possible.

Common onboarding mistakes

  • Too many defaults

The first channel list becomes as confusing as the full server.

  • Answers that change nothing

Questions should affect roles, channels or a clear first step.

  • Mandatory preferences

Do not force notification choices members may not want.

  • Ignoring Server Guide

Use its Welcome Sign, to-dos and resources to turn access into action.

How templates relate to this planner

CordNexa templates provide reviewed onboarding baselines for concrete scenarios. The planner normalizes those patterns, then adjusts them for membership, goal and complexity.

GOOD TO KNOW

Onboarding planner questions

Does this configure Discord automatically?

No. It creates a deterministic plan you recreate in Discord. CordNexa does not connect to your server.

Does Discord Onboarding require Community features?

Yes. Native Community Onboarding and Server Guide require Community features. When Community is off, the planner provides a manual welcome, role-menu and channel-access alternative.

What should an onboarding question do?

A useful answer changes access or identity by assigning a role, a channel, or both. Avoid collecting information that has no effect on the member experience.
